When Machines Think — Deep Learning Through Examples

This meetup was held at Vendavo office in Mountain View. To my (very) limited knowledge, I went in with oodles of curiosity of Deep Learning using R. The talk lasted an hour and half, Dr Candel gave a quick introduction of H2O Distributed Deep Learning.

I admit it was only till halfway through did I start to understand the subject. In the 2nd half of the talk, Dr Candel presented a few user cases to demonstrate the advantage of H2O, such as MNIST handwritten digits, eBay text classification, weather prediction, etc. to illustrate neural network training, prediction models, performance of non-regularized and regularized models, memory usage etc.  OxData created a nice tool for machine learning using the powerful statistical language R.

The slides were prepared well with real world examples,  Dr Candel’s presentation was fluent. The microphone was a bit too weak. Thanks to Vendavo for hosting the event.
